The current project, F rustration, extends Amini’s past performative explorations into the realm of architectural sketches, delving deeply into the emotional undercurrents that arise at the intersection of personal journeys and the built environment. These sketches, while minimalist in form, articulate the silent dialogue to navigate the terrain of human emotion, exploring how frustration—a feeling so universal yet deeply personal—is amplified or mitigated by architectural constructs. Philosopher Gaston Bachelard, in The Poetics of Space, argued that spaces hold the power to evoke memories and emotions, writing, “Space we love is inhabited by the imagination. It is not an indifferent container but the heart of the lived experience.” Amini’s sketches seem to echo this, attempting to reclaim urban spaces from their rigidity, allowing them to serve as mirrors to the human condition.

Niloofar Amini is a trained architect, urban planner, and researcher specializing in the interplay between architecture and urban culture, with a particular emphasis on the socio-spatial dynamics of urban settlements. Her work seeks to challenge the rigidity of her discipline by exploring its performative dimensions. Drawing inspiration from Grotowski’s physical theatre, she directed and choreographed several theatrical pieces, including LotVitALLWE (2014) and Reading (2013), the latter based on Fernando Pessoa’s The Book of Disquiet. Amini's work consistently explores the introspective journeys of individuals, examining how they are both shaped by and actively shape their spatial environments.
